Non-Surgical Gum Treatment
A Non-Surgical Gum Treatment program generally consists of two types of appointments: Active Therapy Appointments and a Re-evaluation Appointment.
During the Active Therapy Appointments, the gums are carefully examined to determine the extent of periodontal (gum) disease. The treatment includes measuring the gum pockets, scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar from below the gum line, irrigation to help eliminate harmful bacteria, and personalized home care instructions to help restore and maintain healthy gums.
The Re-evaluation Appointment is usually scheduled about one month after the final active therapy session. During this visit, your dentist measures the improvement achieved, evaluates any remaining problem areas, and discusses the most appropriate long-term treatment and maintenance plan to ensure healthy gums for years to come.
Non-surgical periodontal therapy works by removing plaque and calculus (tartar), controlling the growth of harmful bacteria, and treating the conditions that contribute to gum disease. In many cases, especially when periodontal disease is detected early, non-surgical treatment alone may be sufficient. Before periodontal therapy begins, certain dental conditions—such as worn fillings or crowns with overhanging margins that trap plaque—may also need to be corrected to achieve the best treatment results.
Non-Surgical Gum Treatment Methods

01.
Root Planing
The goal of Scaling and Root Planing is to eliminate the source of periodontal infection by removing plaque, tartar, and bacterial toxins from the root surfaces below the gum line. When active periodontal disease is present, routine dental cleanings are not sufficient, as they generally remove plaque and tartar only from above the gum line. Root planing helps smooth the root surfaces, allowing the gums to heal and reattach to the teeth.

02.
Ultrasonic Scaling
Ultrasonic Scaling is one of the most effective procedures for treating periodontal disease. An ultrasonic scaler uses a small, specially designed scaling tip that produces gentle ultrasonic vibrations. These rapid vibrations, combined with a continuous flow of water, effectively remove tartar and plaque while significantly reducing the number of harmful bacteria beneath the gum line, promoting healthier gums.

Arestin
As part of our periodontal therapy, we offer Arestin®, an effective treatment that helps control bacterial infection within the gums. Arestin® is used in combination with Scaling and Root Planing to significantly reduce the depth of infected periodontal pockets and help prevent the progression of gum disease, leading to improved periodontal health.

Atridox
To help fight periodontal disease, we also provide treatment with Atridox. Atridox is an antimicrobial gel containing an antibiotic, which is applied directly into the spaces between the teeth and gums. The gel flows deep into the periodontal pockets and gradually hardens into a wax-like substance, allowing the medication to remain in place and continuously fight infection while supporting the healing process.
At Dr. Maulik Vora Dental Clinic & Implant Center, we use advanced non-surgical periodontal treatments to effectively manage gum disease, restore healthy gums, and help preserve your natural teeth with comfortable and personalized care.
